Classes, Workshops, and Retreats with Mitch Nur, PhD

<O> February 11, 2012 <> Beyond Wisdom: the Heart Sutra <> A philosophical examination which will survey the Perfection of Wisdom or Prajnaparamita of the Buddhist canon. This dissertation given by the Buddha 2500 years ago near the city of Shravasti at Vulture Peak to a congregation of his students, is just 38 stanzas, but has standed the test of time as one of the most studied treatises in Tibet, China, and Japan. Known as the Heart, Lotus, or Diamond Sutra depending upon which Buddhist School; is one of the most treasured of all Buddhist works. This program will examine this from a purely Western perspective replete with handouts, in order to create a high level of understanding, devoid of esoteric ramblings. Excellent program for students with no Buddhist studies, as well as students already treading the Path. <O> February 11, 2012 <> Huaca Silbador: an evening with the Peruvian Shamanic Whistling Vessels <> A special evening program featuring the psycho-acoustical sound tool of the ancient Inca, hosted by Mitch Nur, PhD. The program will feature an overview of the Incan culture including sound tools dating back to 250BC from Mitch's unique collection; as well as his special edition Moche set of vessels created by Daniel Statnekov. <O> February 12, 2012 <> Harmonic Therapy Practicum • Inside Out <> For nearly 2 years the Studio has presented the Harmonic Therapy Practicum an examination into the instruments, techniques, and procedures to take Sound Healing to the next level. This program will address set, setting, and the circle of fifths; and a review of the Sumerian music scale. Students should bring notebooks, instruments are not required. <O> February 19, 2012 <> Harmonic Therapy Practicum • Entry Point <> This is a repeat of a program that was offered last month which focused on the actual composition and application of harmonic instruments in a session. Students need to bring their instruments to the program. <O> May 17th & 18th, 2012 <> Harmonic TherapyTM Private Sessions <> Harmonic Therapy is a non invasive based treatment, employing the over and undertones of sound through the use of indigenous instruments. Played live, they allow the listener an enhanced firsthand experience. Benefits include: Stress Reduction, Deeper Relaxation, Improves Memory, Offers the Opportunity to Develop a Deeper Understanding of Oneself. The use of Harmonics has been recorded in the Tang Annals of China and in the Vedic cultures. Studied and employed therapeutically by the ancient Greeks and Sumerians, utilized in ceremony and ritual by indigenous traditions worldwide, applied in shamanic practices. Sessions generally last approx. 90 minutes. <O> May 19, 2012 <> Huaca Silbadors: an afternoon with the Peruvian Shamanic Whistling Vessels <> An experiential workshop featuring genuine Incan relics, including authentic silbadors from as early as 200BC. Hosted by Mitch Nur, PhD one of the few western experts on the pre-Columbian whistling pots. Used throughout the ancient Incan culture as a ritual and ceremonial piece; the silbadors are capable of creating binaural beats or beat frequency, which can initiate a shamanic experience. Learn and explore the ancient sound tool of the Inca! <O> May 19, 2012 <> Therapy Techniques with Himalayan Singing Bowls <> Learn essential techniques with the leading western expert on Himalayan Singing Bowls. Mitch is regarded as an authority by Nepalese and Tibetan academics on the subject of Singing Bowls; and he will be sharing both Himalayan and western developed techniques. The use of Singing Bowls is legendary as a meditational aid, but their use as a therapeutic or medicinal instrument has not been widely known. Here's a wonderful opportunity to study with the leading authority on Singing Bowls, and to gain insights on their uses as a healing agent.
